Focus = Clarity

If you have been around me any length of time, you know that I choose a word of the year. This year that word is Focus. Focus is everywhere. It has been more prevelant than any word I have ever chosen. I am not a photographer, but I have noticed the focus in photography this year more than ever.

Obviously, photographs are clearer when they are in focus. We have all seen the out of focus photos that are blurry and quite frankly disappointing. It is easier now with instant photos on our phones. Don’t remember when we would get back our photos from the store after developing, some were great and focused. Others were either super blurry and unrecognizable or heads were chopped off but the end result was the photo was worthless. We would toss them. Sometimes, we blame the camera.

Life is the same. The quality of the reality pictures that show up in your life are mostly due to improper focus. The idea of what you want must be clearly held in mind and should be clearly and distinctly created in your imagination. It must be ‘in focus’; that is, each component must be defined, clearly seen, envisioned.

It is not enough to have clear focus, you will have to actually go through life working on your goals and the reality you are creating. You must remain focused and not get distracted by what is going on around you. Easy enough, right? Maybe, but have you ever noticed the number of unfocused people in the world. If you ask them what they want, they usually can’t give you a clear distinct picture. It is at best blurry and general but nothing specific. Sometimes, they really over-generalize things and a conversation may look like this:

“I want health, wealth and happiness”

“So what does health mean to you?”

“Well, you know, to not be sick.”

“So what does wealth mean to you?”

“Well, you know, to not be lacking.”

“So what does happiness mean to you?”

“To not be sad, dissatisfied.”

“I want peace.”

You could continue the conversation but it would be more of the same. Not this, not that; people like to tell you what they don’t want instead of what they do want. The trouble with focusing on not being unwell is that you are still focusing on the unwellness rather than wellness. They are focused on the limitations and not possibility or abundance. Focus your attention and intentions on those ideals that you want, desire, long for, lust after. Make that focus clear and distinct.

You get the picture you have focused on. “Prosperity is the abundance of all things held ideal in mind and dear in heart.” How clear and exact are your ideals? How much desire, longing, passion is attached to them? How focused is the image in your mind? How focused is your desire to have that ideal be out-pictured in your life? The complex thing about life is that it is full of distractions. Here you are, focused on some purpose or goal and then this incredibly intrusive thing occurs.

Perhaps, you are busy creating a business and some major obstacle presents itself, so you change your mind, change your plan, change your focus to the next great business idea and the next one after that. Life is full of distractions making it easy to lose focus. In order to succeed, we must stay focused. The ones you see doing great things had something in coming – laser-sharp focus.
